Bodegas Abiertas: a new concept of sustainable wine tourism
Bodegas Abiertas is back in 2019 for a new updated edition. Already strongly committed to responsible consumption with the “Designated Drivers”, the 40 participating wineries in Mendoza will also be collaborating with the Light Project for the first time since the programme was launched.
The Light Project (or Proyecto de Luz), is a Mendoza-based institution that was born to help communities closer to the wineries in human and social development. Gonzalo Merino, the Enotourism coordinator of Bodegas de Argentina explains: "This synergy allows us to continue developing and promoting sustainable wine tourism programs, while inviting wineries and other wine tourism companies to be part of each action, from its proposal to its completion, thus encouraging the permanent exchange of wine tourism with the community".
Furthermore, and as in previous years, the Wine in Moderation programme will be a fundamental part of Bodegas Abiertas. The "Designated Drivers" who will be identified at the beginning of the visit, will have the responsibility not to consume wine during the tour, to take care of themselves and the rest of the group. Those who commit to this role will receive a prize at the end of the tour.
Since it was developed in 2012, Bodegas Abiertas has grown into a yearly appointment for the people of Mendoza, who discover new wineries and, at the same time, are part of a social action programme thanks to the contribution of the entrance fee.
