“The Greatest Wine? The one that you will remember.”: A positive second edition of the Wine in Moderation Day
PRESS RELEASE - Brussels, 12/11/2024 – The second edition of the international Wine in Moderation Day, held on 8 November, was a great success, with the campaign, “The greatest wine? The one that you will remember” once again highlighting the importance of responsible and moderate drinking.
This year, the campaign saw a significant increase in engagement across various platforms, with over 200 social media posts, thousands of likes, more than 100 stories and a wide array of activities hosted in numerous countries. The response from consumers, professionals, and the media generated a great buzz online, with countless articles, posts, and discussions amplifying the message of moderation and mindful enjoyment of wine.
Sandro Sartor, President of Wine in Moderation, reflected on the success: “We are thrilled with the response to this second edition of Wine in Moderation Day. The enthusiasm from the wine community, professionals, and consumers reaffirms the importance of our message: moderation and responsibility are at the heart of wine culture and should always be remembered. It was inspiring to see so many people from different countries and sectors engage with our campaign, and we are excited to continue building on this success in the years to come.”
A key highlight of the week's events was a special roundtable discussion held at the European Parliament on November 6th under the patronage of the international Organisation of Vine and Wine. The roundtable discussion "Wine in Moderation Day – an initiative and campaign to inspire moderate and responsible drinking" was hosted by MEP Esther Herranz Garcia, and featured insightful contributions from prominent voices such as Prof. Mladen Boban from the University of Split, who presented the latest scientific findings on wine within a balanced lifestyle, and Aline Bouchez Senior Strategic Planner at BUZZMAN who explored how to communicate moderation effectively to the new generations. The roundtable brought together policymakers and stakeholders from across the world, emphasizing the importance of science-based information and clear communication in fostering responsible wine consumption. The event underscored the critical role of education in promoting moderate drinking and was introduced by WiM President Sandro Sartor, with closing remarks reinforcing the message of responsible enjoyment.
The Wine in Moderation Day is organised by the WiM Association to celebrate the culture and history of wine while encouraging consumers to enjoy wine responsibly. The campaign promotes moderation as a core value, with members around the globe committed to this message through year-round communication and educational activities.
