Vinos de Chile organises seminar on Social Responsibility with high representatives of Chilean authorities

To launch the Wine in Moderation-Art de Vivre Programme in Chile and in the frame of the Research & Development (R&D) Consortium, Vinos de Chile organised a seminar “Sustainability in the wine industry: from the vineyard to the consumer”, on 26 August. This seminar, which welcomed over 120 professionals and experts, aimed at presenting the progress of R&D in regards to the Code of Sustainability and Social Responsibility, disseminating research and international initiatives aimed at responsible wine drinking and social responsibility.

In the frame of the Consortium’s project, the Executive Director of the Link Center of the Catholic University of Valparaiso, Dante Pesce, presented the R & D project of Social Responsibility in the wine industry which aims at providing the Chilean wine industry tools and skills to enable them to strengthen their commitment to sustainability. Furthermore, Patricio Parra, Manager of the R & D Consortium of Vinos de Chile, presented the progress that has been achieved in the Code of Sustainability, and both collaborations and, national and international efforts to achieve international recognition.

Important personalities and renowned scientists participated in the seminar, among whom the Vice-secretary of Economy, the Vice President of Vinos de Chile, and the scientific Coordinator of the Centre for Molecular Nutrition and chronic diseases, Dr. Inés Urquiaga who presented the scientific evidence on  moderate wine consumption and human health.

In terms of  CSR and responsible consumption, Stylianos Filopoulos, Director of the Wine in Moderation-Art de Vivre (WIM) Aisbl, introduced the WIM Programme and presented how other WIM members have successfully implemented this initiative in their own countries. Stylianos Filopoulos asserted that the experience and the structured approach that Vinos de Chile and the Research & Development (R&D) Consortium have developed with the Sustainability Code, is a key asset for the WIM programme's development and success in Chile.

Vinos de Chile which joined the Wine in Moderation – Art de Vivre Programme as an observer member in spring 2014, and shares the same values as the WIM Aisbl promoting responsible and moderate drinking, is aware that the wine sector contributes to Chile’s economic, social, environmental, cultural and agricultural development. The association, already widely known and appreciated for its strong commitment to sustainability, will take an active role in coordinating, along with all public and private actors, best practices of moderate and responsible consumption, inherent to the values ​​and the culture of wine.
