OIVE and FIVIN organise training session on moderation and scientific-based evidence

OIVE and FIVIN organise training session on moderation and scientific-based evidence

Good communication and correct information are fundamental, especially when dealing with topics such as “wine and health”. On June 1st, the (OIVE) and the Foundation for Research on Wine and Nutrition (FIVIN) organised a webinar to provide the guidelines for the correct management of communication on wine and health to professionals of the wine sector.

The guidelines presented during the session aim at encouraging the enjoyment of wine in moderation and offering a broad perspective on the risks of excessive consumption targeting both the general public and the HORECA sector. In this regard, the different actions developed in this area were presented, including a Communication Protocol to interact with the media and other public actors, and the new dissemination platform The Science of Wine and Health, designed to become a reference for transparency and scientific accuracy in matters of wine and health. It contains more than 600 scientific studies, as well as an observatory of news and informative articles.

The webinar also highlighted the leading role of the Wine in Moderation programme as a major player in promoting moderate wine consumption and tackling wine abuse. In this frame, operators in Spain were encouraged to join the Code of Commercial Communication of Wine, which already has nearly a thousand adherents, to reinforce the sector's commitment to a sustainable culture of wine.

The event was attended by almost 200 people, including wineries, associations and representants of designations of origin. This webinar is part of the activities programmed by FIVIN in collaboration with OIVE with the objective to share the responsible message.  FIVIN’s and OIVE’s commitment are very important in Spain, a country where wine is a way of life, is a part of the landscape, contributes to the settlement of the population in rural areas, preserves the environment in the face of climate change and dignifies farmers and winemakers.
