The wine sustainability protocol in Argentina incorporates Wine in Moderation
Bodegas de Argentina’s Sustainability Protocol addresses all aspects of environmental, social and economic sustainability of viticulture: viticulture, soil management, wine quality, efficient energy use, human resources, neighbours and community impact, responsible consumption, etc.
The document is currently being updated to include a section on Wine in Moderation, giving further visibility to the programme. It is indeed, in chapter 13. Neighbours and Community, where the importance for the wine business to take care of its impact on local community and society is stressed, and where Wine in Moderation is presented as THE programme to promote a responsible consumption of wine.
Among the updates, the protocol will also include Social Sustainability, ODS (United Nations Sustainable Development Goals), Human Rights (gender, discrimination, child labor), labor standards (hygiene and safety, working hours, right of association), ethics, anti-corruption, and environmental Footprint.
This protocol has a national scope. Wineries (whether they are members of Bodegas de Argentina or not) can apply for a certification after implementing the protocol and successfully passing a verification audit by an authorised company.
Recognized by the National Institute of Viticulture and by the Nordic monopolies, more than one hundred units have already been certified through Bodegas de Argentina’ Sustainability Protocol, including farms, warehouses and institutes.
