The annual celebration of Port Wine
As previous editions, the Porto Wine Day® took place on 10 September for the annual celebration of Port Wine.
5,000 people participated at the three main events that constituted the sixth edition of the Porto Wine Day®:
- 2017 Vintage Port Tasting and Vintage Proclamation Ceremony 2017 | 7 September
- Port Wine day® Sunset Party | 8 September
- Commemorative Dinner of the 263th Douro Wine Region’s Anniversary |10 September
AEVP disseminated material of the Wine in Moderation national campaign throughout the whole programme and more specifically during the Port Wine Day Sunset Party. ~2000 collectible postcards, with fun phrases, cool colours and Pop Art inspired images were handed out together with a Comic Strip leaflet and also cup bases with a QR Code leading to the website www.wineinmoderation.com, where tips on how to enjoy wine moderately can be consulted.
The Institute of Douro and Porto Wines, IP, has been organising the annual Porto Wine Day® since 2014 to celebrate this day: an event that gathers in Porto journalists from all around the world, joining the best wine producers of Porto, organizes exclusive tastings with innovative wines and seminars and infuses a city and all its inhabitants with Porto Wine’s spirit.
It was on 10 September 1756 that the Marquês de Pombal created a demarcated and regulated region of the world: the Douro Vinhateiro. Born from the desire to celebrate Port Wine, the Port Wine Day was officially instituted in 2014, 258 years later.
