National contest of best sommelier introduces question about responsible drinking

National contest of best sommelier introduces question about responsible drinking

For the first time ever, a sommelier association has introduced a question about responsible serving in the annual national contest of best Sommelier.

PENO, the Greek Sommelier Association, actively involved in the Wine in Moderation – Art de Vivre (WIM) Programme and partner of the VET ArtdeVivre Partnership Programme, introduced two questions about responsible serving in the final phase of the 2014 official contest for best sommelier of Greece. The contestants were asked over the issues about drink and driving as well as drinking during pregnancy. The winner will represent Greece during the international ASI’s (Association de la Sommellerie Internationale) contest for best Sommelier of the World in 2016.

Andreas Matthidis, President of PENO, commented that this demonstrates their high commitment to encouraging moderation and reducing alcohol-related harm. “And this is only the start”, he said.
