With our very best wishes! Wine in Moderation - a 2019 Retrospective!

By celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Wine in Moderation Programme, we wrapped 2018 making a toast to the past with an eye on the future.

2019 has been a year of renovation, improvements and changes leading our responsible programme to new paths and expanding the reach of our message.

Among the biggest news, the launch of a new Brand Strategy, message and visual identity. With the new tagline CHOOSE | SHARE | CARE, Wine in Moderation reinforces the spread of its message to wine professionals, while getting closer to consumers with the support of a modern and fresh new design.

An event on the role of wine in the sustainability of our society was organised in cooperation with Euractiv, while Wine in Moderation participated at a number of important events and congresses among which the 41st UNWTO Affiliate Members Plenary Session andthe 23rd UNWTO General Assembly; the Prohibition, 1919-2019 Symposium, or The Future of EU Viticulture organised by our Observers COPA-COGECA and CEVI.

Young adults have remained at the centre of the programme, sharing a message of culture and moderation. The 10 years of 'Responsible Parties' by our Ambassador Pernod Ricard in partnership with the Erasmus Students Network; the Responsible Service Training at the School of Hospitality and Tourism of Porto by Sogrape Vinhos; WeWine, the wine festival for millennials organised by Bodegas de Argentina and the Millennials and Wine Video competition by Vin & Société are only some of the initiatives the Wine in Moderation community is proud of.

Our presence in the academic world has also been growing: while a Research and Teaching Chair launched by Vin & Société and KEDGE Business School was launched earlier this year, our partnership with the University of Reims was reinforced.

Responsible wine consumption and sustainability remain the key topics at the heart of all our initiatives. To mention only a couple : the National Conference on Viticulture & Oenology organised in Hungary by HNT; the responsible consumption TV & cinema campaign by ACIBEV; a seminar on responsible advertising of wine organized by DWA; All those who spit my wine adore it campaign by Vin & Société; or the Bodegas Abiertas new concept on sustainable wine tourism (Argentina).

We kept our ties with wine expos strong with a renewed presence at ProWein where leaflets were distributed, a Wine in Moderation booth gathered many visitors, and a large number of bilateral meetings were organised. A debate was also organised with our Partner Vinexpo during the fair in Bordeaux, Wine in Moderation: caring about your customer is caring about your legacy, gathering participants and triggering interesting discussions.

The number of WiM Supporters has also kept on growing in 2019, even rising faster than previous years. This encouraging trend comforts our motivation to keep on thriving to encourage a sustainable culture of wine. We are also happy to announce that EVOINOS joined us as member, becoming the National Coordinator in Cyprus. Positive news keeps on coming from South America where Chile and Argentina joined their forces to present the Wine in Moderation programme and where Colombia has been actively developing action during its first year as a Wine in Moderation member.

Last but definitely not least, we would like to thank Stylianos Filopoulos for his 9 years as Director of WiM Secretariat. During his time at Wine in Moderation, Stylianos has consolidated the association, expanding its European base and launching the programme in Latin America countries, helping to establish Wine in Moderation as the international social responsibility program for wine.

With 2020 just around the corner, so are new challenges and opportunities. We are ready to welcome what the upcoming year has in store for us.

In the meanwhile, we wish you to spend a wonderful time with the people you love during some well-deserved holidays and wish you all the best for the new year.
