Wine & Law students discuss CyberWine issues with Wine in Moderation

It is in the frame of the 8th Fall School on Wine Law that Wine in Moderation was invited to participate in a round table discussion that took place on 18 October in Reims, Champagne.

With this year’s Wine Law Program focusing on "Cyber Wine: Legal Issues for the Wine & Spirits Sector in the Digital Era", the round table concentrated on discussing “CyberWine issues with Wine in Moderation”.

WiM Association director, Stylianos Filopoulos, and Noélie Genevey, Public Affairs Manager of Moët Hennessy and WiM Association Board Member, both participated in the round table sharing their experiences and pointing out the importance of self-regulation in commercial communication.

While Mr. Filopoulos introduced Wine in Moderation, its objectives, and missions, the challenges and the future of the programme were also mentioned looking to the future of this global CSR movement and its implementation. Questions on how academic establishments can work together with Wine in Moderation were raised and an interesting debate followed.

In parallel, Noélie Genevey presented the actions of Moët Hennessy in terms of self-regulation touching upon the strategies the group has undertaken to be in line with the latest communication, marketing and trade regulations. One of the leading companies worldwide, Moët Hennessy, was a pioneer in adapting Wine in Moderation’s self-regulation code in their commercial communication; also taking it a step further by educating its professionals making them the ambassadors of the responsible message.

The event which took place in Reims on 18 October in partnership with the Georges Chappaz Institute for Vine and Wine in Champagne, welcomed over 50 participants among which many students from the master’s degree on Wine & Spirits Law of the University of Reims and the Burgundy School of Wine & Spirits Business, faculty members and actors of the Wine in Moderation programme.

The Wine & Law Program was the first academic entity to join WiM association as Observer in June 2018 and will be looking to contribute to the important work carried out by Wine in Moderation by advising on the protection of the Wine in Moderation trademark, and discussing the issues related to digital consumer information on wine, health and low risk patterns of consumption.
