Beginning of July marked an important step for Vin & Société which presented to President Macron its new “Prevention Plan”, the sector’s contribution to the National Public Health Plan.
The “Prevention Plan” aims to reinforce the already existing strong commitments in place to inform and educate populations at risk such as pregnant women, minors and young adults; but also, to encourage a responsible consumption of wine.
The main measures proposed by the wine sector include among others: a better respect of the ban on the sale of alcohol to minors; more information about the risks of driving under the influence of alcohol; an intensification in the fight against binge drinking; promoting responsible behaviour among consumers; improving knowledge and implementation of responsible consumption among future professionals, etc.
An event organised last 3rd of July in Paris, was the perfect opportunity to present this new “Prevention Plan” and open the discussion.
Pau Roca, Secretary General of the Spanish Wine Federation (Wine in Moderation National Coordinator in Spain) and Hubert Sacy, General Manager of Educ'alcool in Quebec, were invited to join to debate and shared their national experiences in developing similar prevention campaigns including the responsible consumption of wine.
Mr. Roca gave a clear indication on the importance of the Wine in Moderation programme in Spain and the large multichannel campaign that was developed in its frame, the “Quien Sabe Beber, Sabe Vivir” campaign which lasted from 2012 to 2015; as well as other important activities launched in the frame of Wine in Moderation such as their self-regulation initiative.
The event which was attended by a great number of professionals from the French filière and in presence of media; triggered many questions and showed the important interest in the topic of prevention and the responsible consumption the wine.
