For its third edition, the UNWTO Global Conference on Wine Tourism will gather a great number of leading personalities active in the field of wine tourism. Wine in Moderation will be represented there through the participation of its Director, Stylianos Filopoulos.
Wine tourism is one of the most flourishing segments of tourism demand. Linked to the traditions of rural communities, it can generate income and employment in regions where other sources of income may be in decay. The development of wine tourism further creates opportunities for income through its linkages to handicrafts, nature tourism, gastronomy and agro-tourism.
This 3rd edition of the UNWTO Global Conference on Wine Tourism will focus on wine tourism as a tool for rural development stressing the contribution of tourism to the 2030 Universal Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
With the aim of introducing the Wine in Moderation programme to all the leading personalities and national representatives present at the Conference, WiM Association Director will explain why social responsibility is important for the wine business and how the Wine in Moderation programme has been able to motivate and enable the sector to take action and drive change.
Wine tourism is indeed a key tool in communicating the origins, specificity and the culture of wine, and plays an important role in revealing and safeguarding the great cultural heritage of wine. It is the opportunity for wineries to contact their customers and pass the message of moderation and responsibility.
Organised by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation, the specialised United Nations agency responsible for the promotion of tourism, the conference is taking place on 6 and 7 September in Chisinau, Moldova.
