‘Wine in Moderation’ – a unique international movement

10 years ago, the world was a different place, the economic crisis was starting, Barack Obama was the first African American elected President, and the Treaty of Lisbon had just been signed. At the time, the term “Moderation” was neither exciting nor in our day to day vocabulary.

10 years later, it is a very different story. Today young people are gaining consciousness, taking into consideration their health, the environment and the climate, and aiming to have a more balanced lifestyle; challenging the way we live our lives and the way we act in our modern societies.

It was in 2008 that the European wine sector took a courageous step to address alcohol-related harm in a tangible manner and united to create the Wine in Moderation Programme. An opportunity which arose from the European Commission’s European Alcohol and Health Forum.

But what started off as policy commitment soon escaped the “Brussels bubble” and brought together in a unique alliance, businesses, universities, authorities and citizens from around the world.

Evoinos joins Wine in Moderation

Cyprus takes a step towards Wine in Moderation

20 February 2019

EVOINOS was founded in 2013 but formally constituted in 2017 as an informal network for a selected group of Cypriot wineries and professionals as well as wine lovers interested in the development of Cypriot wines and vineyards. With the goal to further spread the culture of wine and the conscious enjoyment of this agriculture product, the Cypriot association Evoinos has decided to join the Wine in Moderation movement.

KVNW celebrates 120 years

Celebrating the 120 years of Wine Importers in the Netherlands

This year marked the 120 years of the Royal Dutch Wine Importers of the Netherlands (KVNW), who organised a symposium to celebrate this important milestone. The event, which took place last February, gathered an important number of leading experts to present and discuss the latest trends and developments that will influence the wine trade and wine consumption in the coming decades: food trends, climate change, rise of online sales and platforms, etc.

Essencia do Vinho 2019

ACIBEV and Sogrape Vinhos hand in hand at Essência do Vinho to promote responsible drinking

The 16th edition of “Essência do Vinho” took place in Porto, Portugal from 21 to 24 February. For this year’s edition, ACIBEV and Sogrape Vinhos joined forces to encourage the the responsible consumption of wine through a drink and drive campaign and their Responsible Service training.

Vin et Société helps you discover your senses at the 2019 annual Paris International Agricultural Show

The 2019 annual Paris International Agricultural Show took place from 23 February to the 3rd of March. Vin et Société decided to focus this year’s activities on the development of the senses. A multi-sensory game allowed participants to learn more about the senses involved in wine tasting, such as smell, sight or touch.

Wine before beer, beer before wine? - Grape or grain but never the twain

During the carneval season, some people drink too much. The acute consequence can be an unpleasant hangover. For the first time, it has been systematically and scientifically examined whether the severity of such an hangover is actually less, if you respect the age-old saying „beer before wine and you’ll feel fine, wine before beer and you’ll feel queer“. Scientists have now shown that it doesn't matter how you order the drinks -- if you drink too much, you're still likely to be ill.
