Wine in Moderation further expands in South America by welcoming Uruguay

09 May 2018 - 01 January 1970

Press Release – Brussels, May 9th, 2018 – Uruguay becomes the third country from South America to join the Wine in Moderation programme strengthening the reach of the moderation message on the American continent.

By joining WiM Association, Instituto Nacional de Vitivinicultura (INAVI) thus becomes the national contact point of the programme and will be responsible for the planning, coordination and accountability of Wine in Moderation in Uruguay.

Already greatly committed to sharing the culture of wine, its history and traditions; and the responsible and moderate consumption of wine, INAVI will be looking to further consolidate its messages by launching Wine in Moderation actions and incorporating the responsible message in its communication.

President of INAVI, José Ma. Lez Secchi, mentioned “Uruguay is very pleased to be part of the Wine in Moderation programme. It is a great pleasure to work together with other countries and organizations to promote moderation and responsibility for our consumers. We strongly believe that education is the most powerful tool we have to enjoy and appreciate wine sensibly.”

Stylianos Filopoulos, Gen. Secretary of the WiM Association, also commented “we are particularly happy to welcome Uruguay in the Wine in Moderation family and to join forces in the development of a sustainable wine culture. With its vision, INAVI is driving a dynamic national wine sector and we look very much forward to working together in its goal to inform and educate both professionals and consumers in Uruguay and further expand the reach and impact of the moderation message”.

The membership between Wine in Moderation and the Instituto Nacional de Vitivinicultura - Vinos del Uruguay was sealed in Paris last month.

This new membership consolidates the existing strong ties between Wine in Moderation and South America already established after Bodegas de Argentina and Vinos de Chile respectively joined in 2013 & 2014; and further establishes Wine in Moderation as the social responsibility movement of the global wine sector.
