Responsible wine communication was recently at the centre of discussions in Germany. Invited at the yearly symposium of the German Raiffeisen Federation, Dr. Claudia Stein-Hammer from the Deutsche Weinakademie presented what is currently being done by the wine sector to reinforce responsible commercial communication of wine.

Voluntary self-regulation of the wine sector – also known as the Wine Communication Standards (WCS) aim at promoting best practices across the globe whilst taking into account the specific characteristics of the wine sector and ensuring that commercial communications of wine products do not encourage or condone excessive consumption or misuse of any kind.

Established as one of the pillars of the Wine in Moderation-Art de Vivre (WIM) programme, all members of the WIM programme are committed to respecting this set of basic principles which act in tandem with the existing legislation.

Only companies that adhere to the Wine Communication Standards can join the WIM programme and use the WIM logo.
