Organised by the Austrian Wine Academy, the annual congress of Wine Educators took place in Styrian Burg Seggau, Austria, last October. More than 600 teachers from about 160 schools participated in this important event; mostly educators at Austrian HORECA schools who teach beverage management; a primary target of the Academy´s Wine in Moderation campaign in Austria.
Wine in Moderation was the focus of this year’s edition with the aim of presenting the latest available information on wine, health and social aspects; education and guidelines. George Sandeman, President of the WiM Association, was invited to present the programme providing insight on guidelines and training of responsible service. Prof. Dr. Mladen Boban, eminent member of the WIC Scientific Advisory Group, followed with a scientific presentation explaining in an easily understandable way the complex background to wine and health issues.
Due to the ongoing information campaign of the Austrian Wine Academy, participants were very much aware of the key issues related to Wine in Moderation and found it extremely helpful to receive this guidance and advice from the two high calibre speakers.
Very active in education, the Austrian Wine Academy provides about 250 lectures to more than 5000 students annually.
