PRESS RELEASE: WiM Association welcomes two new members

Wine in Moderation

PRESS RELEASE - 15/07/2015, Brussels. The General Assembly of the WiM Association has unanimously welcomed one new Effective member and one new Observer Member during its meeting on the 22nd June 2015.


The Dutch Association of Wine Merchants (KVNW) joins WiM Association as effective member and is nominated as the WIM national coordinator in the Netherlands. At the same meeting the French Federation of Aperitif Wines (FFVA) has also joined the WiM Association as Observer Member.


Both Associations have presented their respective Wine in Moderation – Art de Vivre Action Plan to encourage moderation and responsibility and contribute in the reduction of alcohol-related harm.


Responsible for the coordination, accountability and growth of the Wine in Moderation Programme, WiM Association now counts 15 Effective members and 3 Observers members. Structured Wine in Moderation Programmes are implemented by the national WiM coordinators in 9 countries around Europe and S. America, and actions are developed in more than 20 countries worldwide with the support of the WIM Ambassador Companies, European Associations and other Partners.


From the small start in 2008, the Wine in Moderation programme has grown from a European programme to a worldwide wine movement. The entry of these two very important European Associations in the WiM Association strengthens our base of activities in Europe, and leads the way to further growth in the next year” said George Sandeman, President of WiM.


Already very much involved in the fight against alcohol-related harm through their participation in several initiatives (e.g.: Self-regulation: STIVA, drink/driving: BOB campaigns, under legal age drinking: NIX18), KVNW becomes the national coordinator of the WIM programme in The Netherlands and will be responsible for the planning, coordination, implementation and accountability of WIM in its country.


The KVNW has always been a firm supporter of responsible drinking. It was one of the founders of STIVA and the self-regulatory Advertising Code for Alcoholic Beverages in The Netherlands. This is a new and very important instrument to diffuse the message. On October 8th we will therefore launch a consumers campaign in The Netherlands based on the principles of Wine in Moderation. The message of enjoying wine will be communicated in a very attractive way” said Peter van Houtert, President of the KVNW.


While Vin et Société acts as National Coordinator in France, FFVA will be supporting and further taking action to encourage moderation and responsibility in France. With members such as Grandes Marques de Porto already well-experienced with the WIM programme, FFVA is looking to further spread the message of moderation and responsibility.

Our participation in the Wine in Moderation Programme will further enhance our actions in favor of gastronomy and related business and its actors anchored in all regions".
