PRESS RELEASE, 24 July: The Born Digital Wine Awards by Wine in Moderation (BDWAbyWIM), the only competition that awards talented writers, photographers and video producers creating wine-focused digital material in 7 different languages, this year attracted over three hundred entries from across the globe making it the most successful edition of this long-standing contest.
Submissions closed on Saturday 15 July having received over 310 entries from writers, photographers and video-producers worldwide, an increase of 17% on the 2016 edition. The pieces of work will now be assessed and judged over the summer with shortlists being realised in early autumn.
A panel of international wine experts including award-winning editor Richard Siddle (Chairman), South-American based journalist Amanda Barnes, Editor-in-chief of Meininger’s Wine Business International Felicity Carter, Brazil’s influential wine expert Marcelo Copello, award-winning journalist W. Blake Gray, Photographer and Chairman of the Circle of Wine Writers Colin Hampden-White, Swedish wine-writer and cartoonist Ulf Janssen, Greek journalist and vice president of FIJEV Ted Lelekas, New-York based author and journalist Elin McCoy and video communication expert Carrie Patsalis will soon start judging the entries.
The organisers and sponsors of the awards would like to thank all those who took the time to participate in the awards as well as the judges and assessors who will now be involved in evaluating the entries over the coming months. As Ryan Opaz, creator of the awards said, “the Born Digital Wine Awards by Wine in Moderation provide a benchmark for outstanding online content produced in a range of languages. They are fundamental in promoting high quality material that spread the wine culture to a larger audience and we are thankful for everyone who participated for giving us the opportunity to assess their work”.
Shortlists will be announced in October and the final results will be revealed in an online video at the beginning of November. Winners of all categories will receive financial prizes of up to 500 euros whilst Moët Hennessy, sponsor of the Best Opinion / Editorial writing category, will also present the three winners with special prizes.
