A 2017 Retrospective

With 2017 coming to an end, it is time to look back at the past year and think about all our achievements. Numerous activities, new members and partners, participation at international expos and important milestones have marked this year, bringing Wine in Moderation to the next level.



First Baltic country joins the social responsibility movement - Sommelier School of Lithuania becomes member of Wine in Moderation

By joining WiM Association, the Sommelier School of Lithuania (UAB Namine peleda) becomes the National Coordinator of the Wine in Moderation programme in Lithuania, and the first in the Baltic countries. With activities in different spheres of the wine sector in Lithuania, the Sommelier School of Lithuania will be looking to implement the Wine in Moderation programme into numerous segments of the Lithuanian wine business; and involve established and small emerging wineries, importers and distributors, retail but also wine related events and exhibitions, educational bodies and educators.

“Drink & Drive” initiative with Wine in Moderation and the state police at Bassano wine festival
8 - 10 December 2017

From 8 to 10 December, more than 140 wineries took part in the first edition of the “Bassano Wine Festival” held at the Bassano del Grappa exhibition centre, in Italy. Among numerous exciting events, Unione Italia Vini (UIV) was invited to present Wine in Moderation, in cooperation with the State Police who explained the rules for drink driving.

Born Digital Wine Awards brought to you by Wine in Moderation Born Digital Wine Awards by Wine in Moderation releases winners of 2017 benchmarking global high quality journalism focused on the wine culture

The 2017 winners of the Born Digital Wine Awards by Wine in Moderation were released at 6pm CET on 30 November during an online awards ceremony. This year’s awards attracted over 310 entries from 21 countries with material accepted in seven different languages. Greek was a new language for this year’s edition which further broadened the reach of the awards. Following initial assessment and verification by group of local judges in each language, approximately 50% of the entries passed to the final round of assessment and were scrutinised by a panel of international experts including last year’s winners.

Initiated by MEP Aldo Patriciello, and with the support of the research centre Neuromed, the event “Moderate alcohol consumption within a balanced lifestyle” aimed at presenting the latest scientific information on wine, health and social aspects and the link between the moderate consumption of wine and health.

What about alcohol-free "wines"?

KVNW’s Wine in Moderation campaign “Wim over Wijn” is shaping a sustainable wine culture in The Netherlands. Wim is the virtual character of the campaign and is always curious to learn more about wine and its culture. In collaboration with the magazine “Voeding Nu” - a magazine about food, and food ingredients - KVNW’s Wim over Wijn organised a blind tasting of de-alcoholised wine products. Consisting of dieticians, people working in the food sector (research, restaurants, sports), or who have an extra interest in food, the tasting panel aimed at understanding this emerging category: are they drinkable? what do they taste like? how are they made? can they complete a meal?
