Die AEVP ist eine private, im Januar 1975 in Portugal ins Leben gerufene Non-Profit-Organisation. Der AEVP sind 17 Mitglieder angeschlossen, die aktuell etwa 90 % des Gesamtumsatzes von Portwein und 35 % des Gesamtumsatzes von Douro-Weinen mit G. U. (Geschützte Ursprungsbezeichnung) und g. g. A. (geschützte geografische Angabe) erwirtschaften.
