Rome, March 12, 2015 – Held in the most beautiful auditorium of the Italian Ministry of Agriculture: Sala Cavour, the round table “L’alcool: tra ragione e sentimento” was a great success punctuated by many interventions. The vice-minister of Agriculture and several Senators welcomed the initiative and expressed their support.
The round table which gathered authorities, doctors, anthropologists, nutritionists and experts explored the relationship between alcohol, pleasure, quality of life and health, analyzing the consumption of alcoholic beverages in a perspective of health and wellness. The issue of education was mentioned several times as an important way of encouraging a moderate consumption of wine.
Furthermore, wine has been part of European culture for thousands of years and it is probably the most noble and ancient tradition tied to the Italian land – an unparalleled historical and social heritage which should continue to be considered and appreciated as such.
Among the speakers: Sandro Sartor, coordinator of the wine and health table, Giorgio Calabrese, dietician and university professor, Marco Faccini, hospital manager highly specialised in alcoholism, Ernesto Di Renzo, anthropologist, and Laura Di Renzo, specialist in food science, Michele Contel, Secretary General of the Permanent Observatory on young people and alcohol, Massimiliano Dona, President of the Consumers’ association, and Stylianos Filopoulos, Director of the Wine in Moderation-Art de Vivre (WIM) AISBL.
Domenico Zonin – President of Unione Italiana Vini – also reiterated UIV’s ongoing commitment to promote the best models of moderate and responsible wine consumption, to spread the culture of wine as a lifestyle centered on love for the taste, diversity and quality, perfectly in line with the objectives of the European Wine in Moderation-Art de Vivre (WIM) programme."
