Master of Wine is one of the highest distinction in wine business, a title that is attributed only to those few with an excellent knowledge of wine, its market and culture. Held every four years, this year’s Institute of Masters of Wine Symposium “Living Wine” gathered a rich variety of international speakers and over 100 Masters of Wine.
The Symposium which lasted four days, ended on 17 June with a tasting of Spanish wines which was preceded by one of Wine in Moderation’s most popular activities: the breathalyser tests.
Participants had the opportunity to test their breath alcohol concentration both before and after the tasting, learning more about the effect of alcohol on their system and getting more information about the Wine in Moderation programme. Participants proved very eager and curious to know more and all happily played along, grabbing more breathalysers along the way for future use.
The Wine in Moderation logo was included in all the Symposium material, leaflets and reports were made available during the event, and Wine in Moderation branded breathalysers were also included in all the goodie bags distributed to the participants.
Organised in the beautiful region of Rioja, Spain, the 9th International Symposium examined the world of wine from numerous and new angles, focusing on specific subjects such as the impact of microbes on the way wine tastes, while tackling topics of today and of tomorrow (climate change, fraud and fake bottles, etc.).
The Institute of Masters of Wine became Associated Partner of Wine in Moderation in April 2016, both associations seeking to encourage responsibility in the serving, selling, communication and consumption of wine. One of their first common activities, the two associations will be looking to increase their cooperation in the future.
