The 16th edition of “Essência do Vinho” took place in Porto, Portugal from 21 to 24 February. For this year’s edition, ACIBEV and Sogrape Vinhos joined forces to encourage the responsible consumption of wine through a drink and drive campaign and their Responsible Service training.
ACIBEV promotes Wine in Moderation
Considered one of Portugal’s leading wine fair, ACIBEV is always present to promote the Wine in Moderation Programme and their Responsible Service training.
As for previous editions, Wine in Moderation brochures containing the guidelines for low-risk consumption, the units of measurement, how the body metabolises alcohol and the myths linked to the consumption of alcohol were distributed around the fair.
ACIBEV also targeted the professionals handing out over 600 flyers and 5 training manuals with the aim to inform and raise awareness about the responsibilities involved in the sale of alcoholic beverages.
The short informative video was also continuously played during the fair presenting the guidelines for low-risk consumption. 4000 people were reached during the wine fair.
New record of Breathalyzer tests set
For this year’s edition, Sogrape set a new record of breathalyzer tests. Aiming to raise awareness about the risks of drinking and driving, Sogrape carried out 1685 breathalyzer tests, which revealed values between 0 and 3.17 g/l.
Along with the tests, 1685 brochures were handed out to participants, containing guidelines for low-risk consumption, units of measurement and the legal Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) limits for driving in Portugal. As with any other alcoholic beverage, the consumption of wine affects the capacity to perform certain activities, such as driving, and it is always advised to avoid drinking alcoholic beverages when driving.
Through this initiative, Sogrape reached over 2000 visitors with information regarding drink and drive, the benefits of a moderate consumption and the risks of alcohol abuse.
